Out of all the dog breeds you can pick, you chose this majestic and dynamic dog, the Siberian Husky. This breed is known to be one of the best choices for owners that have previous experiences with dogs as handling them at times can be tough and demanding. Known for their stubborn and extremely strong characteristic, training them should be approached with firmness and leadership. The great thing about them is that they are quick and intelligent. So catching up to what you would expect, won’t be much of a problem. As long as you have shown them that they need to respect you. In order to effectively train your Siberian Husky with the behavior you’d like him to have in your household, here are some of the basic tips you can take note of:

Always be in charge and communicate this idea to your husky

Community with him that there are rules he has to obey, you make them and you enforce them. There is no need to be excessively forceful or loud to do this, you only have to be firm with what you’d like from him. Be firm. For example, if you’d like him to wait for his food until the whole family has finished eating, let him wait. Don’t give in and feed him human food scraps as this will develop into a misbehavior in the future.

Make your husky work for something that he wants

This will keep his respect towards you. As the alpha, you have to make sure that he works accordingly to obtain something that he’d like to get. Although basic necessities should be available, wants such as extended playtime or a new toy should be deserved and a dog that simply obeys and behaves appropriately deserves nothing but the best.

Never neglect potty training

More often than not, pet owners neglect the fact that this training is necessary until the mess is already done. It is important to observe the usual signs a dog exhibit when he’s about to relieve himself. If you see these, immediately lead your husky outside the house or unto the specified area where he is allowed to eliminate and once he’s done, you can associate the voice command of saying “go potty.”

Walking on leash

With this dog breed, you should always keep in mind that you are the alpha. When walking on a leash, don’t allow or tolerate his behavior of constantly tugging you or pulling you. You have to communicate that you are in command. When he tugs on the leash, immediately snap him out of this action by gently tugging him to walk by your side. Don’t let him walk faster or in front of you. You should control the pace of the walk. When you exhibit these actions, you let him know that you are the leader and that he should follow you.

Obedience training

Your husky should be taught of the basic commands such as sit, stay and come. Although at times it won’t be as easy as you’ve seen from other dog and dog owners but remember, your husky possesses a stubborn and dignified attitude that can make following you a struggle. But, with firmness, confidence, and leadership, you’ll get through with your Siberian Husky.
